Applying for a Grant

The Nova Scotia Credit Unions Charitable Foundation provides grants to charitable organizations whose provincial focus aligns with our four main areas of support: health care, education, the environment and the Arts.

In 2007, the foundation’s board decided to focus its charitable giving so a substantial donation could be provided to one organization rather than provide smaller donations to a larger number of charitable organizations.

After a selection process where a number of deserving charities where interviewed, Early Intervention of Nova Scotia was selected as the charity of choice for credit unions provincial giving efforts in Nova Scotia. In Newfoundland and Labrador, Kids Eat Smart Foundation was chosen.

These two organizations meet criteria established for foundation support, which includes:
• Alignment with foundation’s mission
• Represents a real community need
• Province-wide focus
• Opportunity for profile for the foundation; commitment by the organization to promote the foundation’s support

The Nova Scotia Credit Unions Bursary Program continues to be supported by the foundation on behalf of our credit unions. A new initiative in Newfoundland and Labrador is under development.

Charitable organizations that are looking for donations or other support are invited to contact their local credit union. For a list of credit unions, please go to the Find a Credit Union menu item on the top of the page. Or go to: www.nscreditunions.ca/locator.
